China 1900 small envelope sent registered from Tientsin to Strasbourg, Germany (as it was back then) and displaying a spectacular FIVE-COLOUR franking of the coiling dragons made up of the ½c brown (x2), the 1c ocher (x3), the 2c scarlett (x3), the 4c orange-brown (x1) and the 5c rose-red (x2), all tied by Tientsin c.d.s. in blue dated „27 OCT 00”, the letter then travelled to Shanghai where a 50c carmine on rose stamp of the French Post Offices in China was applied (Scott no. 9b), upon arrival the cover appears to have got forwarded to Nice, numerous transit postmarks and auxiliary handstamps are present on both front and back, some more or less inherent flaws here and there, however of little importance considering the superb aspect of this cover, greatly enhanced by the blue cancellations, a very rare and important postal history item and an opportunity for the knowledgeable philatelist.  1600  1200 Make an offer

China 1903 envelope sent from Tientsin to Copenhagen, Denmark, via Siberia, franked with a pair of the 5c orange coiling dragons Scott no. 115, together with the 3k carmine and the 7k dark blue stamps of the Russian Post Offices in China Scott nos. 3 and 5 respectively, all of them in perfect condition, Chinese transit c.d.s. and Danish arrival c.d.s. are present on the back, the envelope has some overall toning and the backflap is missing, still an immensely rare cover and certainly one of the earliest known to have used this postal route (which opened in 1903), also sent to an exceedingly rare destination, all in all a fabulous item of great importance for the postal historian or refined philatelist.  1000  800 Make an offer

Japan 1894 large-format envelope sent registered from Yokohama to Basel, Switzerland and franked with a spectacular combination of issues and values in at least six different colours, made up of four examples of each of the 2s carmine and 5s ultra of the 1894 Silver Wedding issue, Scott nos. 85-86, together with the 1s green, 3s lilac-rose, 5s ultra (x2), 8s blue-lilac, 10s brown-orange, 15s purple and 25s blue-green of the 1883-92 definitives issues, Scott nos. 72, 74, 76, 78-80 and 82, some small faults here and there, which are absolutely natural considering the size of this impressive envelope, but otherwise superb condition and visually striking, all in all a spectacular cover of utmost appeal and rarity.

Note: Due to the envelope's size, it didn't fit entirely into the scanner. However, the complete franking is shown in the pictures.

Japan 1920 large fragment of a parcel wrapper mounted on a piece of black cardboard and sent to München, Germany via Canada, franked with a superb four-colour combination of the 1899-1907 definitives issue, consisting of a 2s light green, a block of four (vertically separated) of the 3s rose, a single of the 8s olive-green and another of the 10s deep blue, Scott nos. 96, 98, 102 and 103 respectively, generally fine condition with some inherent flaws here and there, most attractive and very scarce.  250  210 Bidding closed
